'Parent and Toddler' and 'Parent and Baby' groups - from birth to 3 years

Sessions are drop in and cost £4 / £2 concessions. New parents are always welcome .

The groups are small and intimate and aim to support parents during the first three years of the child's life.

Parent and Toddler Group

For you and your child aged 0-3 years. It's an excellent way for parents unfamiliar with Steiner Education to test the water gently with their child and share parenting issues with each other and the teacher. We begin the session with free play where you can play with your child, have a chat with other parents, or join in with our craft activity. We provide crayons for drawing and sometimes bake our own bread for snack-time.

After 45 minutes of free play, we all tidy up the room with a special song. As a part of our routine we take our time, encouraging the children to join in, before we all sit down in a circle for Ring-time and enjoy traditional songs and games together.

There's a snack of healthy, fresh, organic food which the children can help prepare then it's oustide to play. The children love this time with wheelbarrows, water, mud, and snails! while you can enjoy a cup of tea and biscuits.

At the end of the session we wind down with a puppet story, making it easy for every child to follow, and finish with the good-bye song.

Woodland Parent and Toddler Group

Our Woodland Parent and Toddler Group meet at Cosmeston Lakes & Country Park near Penarth, every Wednesday (term time) from 10.00am to 12 noon, whatever the weather.

Come and join us through the year as we walk the same route and watch the seasons change. Across the boardwalk, through the bullrushes, over the fields, past the stream and into the woods. With songs, stories and playtime in our special woodland den.

We meet in the car par by the cafe between 9.45 and 10.00am. Please come dressed for the weather (some rain shelter will be provided in the woods). The group is suitable for children aged 0-6 and cost £3 /£2 concessions, including organic snack. The group is run by Miranda Knight, one of our Parent and Toddler Group Leaders.

Directions:

By Car: Cosmeston Lakes are 5 miles west of Cardiff. The main entrance is 1.5 miles south of Penarth town centre on the B4267 Lavernock Road to Sully. Only 15 minutes from the M4.

Parent and Baby Group

A drop-in group especially for you and your baby aged 0-9 months. A friendly, welcoming space to meet other parents, take time out, unwind, chat and share experiences. Breast and formula fed baby friendly.

Tea and coffee provided. Drop in anytime between 10.00 and 12.00.

Run by Fiona Riches, a mum from the Steiner Early Years Centre and a trained breast-feeding peer counsellor.

“I’m nervous about new situations, so it was lovely to find such a relaxed, non-competitive group. There’s a mix of first time and experienced parents which means you get empathy, good advice, and some much-needed ‘baby-free’ adult conversation.”
