Beverley Powell – Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo)

Beverley joined us as Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) in 2019. She plays a leading role in ensuring an inclusive, whole-school culture and ethos, and providing strategies to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) including English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Beverley works closely with the Class Teachers and Learning Support staff to identify and meet the needs of children with additional learning needs in any aspect of their learning. This work includes assessment, learning support in one to one and small group work with Lower School pupils, support plans, monitoring and review.

Beverley was a Lower School Learning Support Teacher and SENCo at South Devon Steiner School over a period of 20 years. She also spent time as a Class Teacher there. Beverley loves helping children in their learning, and has experience of supporting a broad range of learning needs – including setting up school reading programmes, helping children with specific learning needs including dyslexia, in-class support, and one to one and small group support. Beverley enjoys working with teachers and parents to establish good communications about pupils’ learning needs across the School.
