Ainhoa teaches Spanish across the School to our students age 6 to 19. A native Spanish speaker, she brings an immersive and engaging approach to language education, which aligns perfectly with our ethos. Her goal is to inspire in every child a lifelong love of languages and a deep appreciation for diverse cultures.
Ainhoa holds two degrees in education and has an extensive language teaching background with experience in a wide variety of settings, both in the UK and Spain. She has taught from nursery-aged children to adults – including at Hawthorn Primary, Cathays High School, and Cardiff University’s School of Modern Languages. She also delivers DELE exams, the official international qualifications awarded on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education. Dedicated to professional growth, Ainhoa recently received a scholarship to Salamanca, Spain, collaborating with educators worldwide to develop strategies and techniques to enhance teaching practice.
In Steiner education, foreign language learning is about more than just practical skills; it’s a way to foster empathy and a deeper understanding of the world. By learning a new language, students not only gain a positive attitude toward different cultures and embrace diversity, but they also develop a richer appreciation for their own language and identity. The learning process mirrors how we acquire our native tongue, using action, non-verbal cues, and a rich context to make the language a natural and expressive part of a child’s development.
Ainhoa’s lessons embody this philosophy, moving far beyond traditional vocabulary lists and grammar rules. She uses a vibrant, multisensory approach, incorporating music, art, food and even dance like salsa and merengue to make the language a living, expressive journey. By experiencing Spanish culture, traditions and festivals she helps students build a rich and personal connection to the Spanish-speaking world. This ensures that they don’t just learn the language, but fall in love with a culture.
Ainhoa is a passionate supporter of the Rights Respecting School ethos; which promotes a culture of respect and empathy based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Her teaching philosophy is built on creating strong, compassionate relationships with pupils, believing that a supportive connection is key to helping them reach their full potential.
