Chris Holley – Upper School Music

Chris joins us as Upper School Music Teacher in September 2025. Chris is a versatile and creative musician, conductor, and teacher with extensive experience leading choirs, ensembles, and individual tuition. A skilled multi-instrumentalist, he plays and teaches piano, percussion, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, voice, and theory, and enjoys bringing composition and improvisation into his work. Alongside teaching, he conducts two amateur ensembles, runs his own music projects, and has developed innovative rhythm resources and online content.

He holds a Master’s in Music from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Birmingham, underpinning his extensive practical experience with strong academic training.

Passionate about working with teenagers, Chris is known for his humour, warmth, and encouraging approach, which help students feel engaged and motivated. He has taught learners of all ages and abilities – from complete beginners to advanced young musicians preparing for ABRSM, Trinity, and Rockschool exams – always tailoring his approach to meet individual needs. His choirs and orchestras have thrived under his leadership, growing in size and energy thanks to his originality and commitment.

Chris is excited to bring his breadth of musical knowledge and his commitment to student-centred education into the life of Cardiff Steiner School, where music plays a vital role in fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
