Next Forest Adventure Day
Sunday 11 March 2012, 10.00am to 3.00pm

Our monthly Forest Adventure Days are set in our ‘Base Camp, a stunning natural woodland setting in a quiet part of the forest, next to Coed Hills Rural Arts Space in St Hilary, Vale of Glamorgan (11 miles from Cardiff). They are lead by our qualified Forest School Leader, Gareth Lewis, and are for children aged 6 to 12 (parents do not attend).

Come and have some fun, fresh air and exercise with den building, treasure hunts, nature trails, team games, story telling and more...

This month:

  • Discover more! - as the seasons change, lets roam the site again and see what trees, plants and minibeasts we can find
  • Run, hop and jump for it! - woodland team games aplenty
  • Whittle it! - the highly addictive pastime of stripping bark from a stick
  • Listen! - tall tales by candlelight in our natural roundhouse
  • Explore! - our site has many trees, bushes, dens and plenty of mud...
  • Play! - on our rope swings, small rope balance course and rope climbing frame
  • Eat! - food and drink around our open fire
  • Dig! - for mud, for minibeasts, and for fun!
  • And more...


Our Forest Adventure Days follow the Forest School model, an innovative educational approach originally developed in Denmark, that builds children's independence and self-esteem through exploration and play in a woodland setting. Children learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and, most importantly, to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.

Practicalities
The day costs £25 per child (£20 for additional siblings) including fruit snack and hot chocolate drink at break time, and lunch of warm seasonal soup prepared over an open fire with bread to dip.

We go out into the forest in all weathers except high winds, so children should be dressed appropriately (please see the info pack below for a kit list). We have a small portable toilet for the children to use.
