The BIG Spring Clean

26 March 2012

Our annual Big Spring Clean on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March brought together our parents, teachers and friends to tackle a range of jobs from tidying the garden to tightening screws on chairs.

Our twice yearly Spring Clean and Maintenance Days are essential for keeping the Centre the beautiful space it is for the children. Parents bring food and share lunch together, as they work towards a common goal for the day.

Some jobs need basic housework/DIY skills only, others require the talent & tools for the job. Enthusiasm is the main thing and materials and training are given on the day. It’s rewarding stuff…good fun, good people, good food, good work.

After a busy weekend, parents and teachers had managed to clean the garden, fix the chairs, clean the (many) windows, shampoo the Parent & Toddler Room carpet, deep clean the kitchen and more. We had some very speacial help from our first school children, who sanded the desks they will be using when our new School opens in September. Just like the ‘Elves and the Shoemaker’, the kindergarten children were amazed at the transformation when they come in the next day.

Keeping the troops fed and watered - thank you Nick

Part of the Steiner ethos worldwide is that it is a positive thing for families to be involved with the community that holds their children’s education in its hands. Children, staff and parents know each other and work together to create a supportive and caring community and everyone has a strong commitment to the Centre’s values. Parents and friends help in all kinds of work from baking cakes and crafting toys, to cleaning, repairing and maintaining the building, fundraising, and standing as Trustees.
