Spring Festival

31 March 2012

We held our annual Spring Festival on Saturday 31 March, at St Catherine’s Church Hall in Pontcanna. Children, teachers and families made a giant nest and celebrated Spring with songs and poems, hoping to entice a visit from the Easter Hare.

Kindergarten Teacher Michelle Payne explains:

“The Spring Festival is a magical day in the Kindergarten year. We all get together and build a giant nest out of sticks, twigs, leaves and Spring flowers, in the hope that the Easter Hare will pay us a visit.

We celebrate the arrival of Spring with joyous songs and poems, a feast of hot cross buns, and a puppet show about a boy who gets a visit from the Easter Hare. We then have a wonderful moment where the children go outside to see if the Easter Hare has left any Easter eggs for them.”

The experience of the seasons is an important element in Steiner early childhood education where songs, stories, and activities reflect the changing seasons. The seasonal festivals are a much loved Kindergarten tradition standing as beacons across the changing year.
