Parent Support Classes

19 May 2020

Cardiff Steiner School are helping parents and families maintain connection and community in these challenging times with a series of Parent Support Classes.

The Classes are the idea of the School’s Bothmer Teacher and Administrative Manager, Miranda Knight

“As the whole world has adjusted and changed, the move to remote working for so many, and the demands of supporting children at home in lock-down, throws up a lot of challenges.  One way we can support our Parents’ wellbeing is to give opportunities to connect in real time with each other –  giving virtual access to the ‘school gate’ where parents have an opportunity to engage, move or just smile at each other”.

The School have a ‘Parent Support Classroom’ offering three weekly live sessions:

  • Tuesday Movement at Six – Contemplative movement for all. A chance to carve out a special time and place apart from daily preoccupations and allow the mind to calm through attention to simple movement. Led live by Miranda Knight, this includes guided stretching, breathing and visualisation. Lower stress and anxiety by allowing yourself to be in an intentionally sustained mental state of focused attention and concentrate on you, being you, standing and moving with your feet on this earth.
  • Wednesday Tea at Six – Open drop in to say hello. Set your own level of involvement with no pressure to ‘share’ or be visible if you prefer to just listen in and drink tea with us. Just make yourself a cup of tea and pop in and say hello.
  • Thursday Tea at Four – Advice and support network. An invitation to active conversations where your voice matters. We look at how we can come together as a community sharing the same concerns – supporting the wellbeing and future of all and sharing the wisdom living in our collective. What are the inner attitudes we need to adopt to support ourselves and our communities at this time? What are the practical steps we can take to support ourselves and others? How can we support our children’s emotional wellbeing, find lockdown friendly ways of being active, whilst keeping our children safe, protected and happily engaged.

Beyond the Classroom

Our buildings are closed …our learning continues.  The ‘Parent Support Classes’ are part of Cardiff Steiner School’s ‘Beyond the Classroom‘ distance learning programme during Covid-19. Our teachers and staff are providing inspiring solutions to deliver an effective learning programme that honours our curriculum; ensures all pupils are able to engage and progress in skills and interest, with individual needs supported; and keeps the indispensable human connections alive between us. As the whole world has adjusted and changed we are looking on this as an opportunity to apply creative solutions and keep alive a tangible sense of the School to which we all belong and look forward to returning to and standing in each-others’ company again.
