Paula M Vargas – Upper/Middle School Teacher Science

Paula is our one of our Upper/Middle School Science Teachers specialising in Science, Biology and Ecology.

Paula has 15 years’ experience teaching Science and Biology from age 11 to further education in a range of diverse settings including as a Middle School Science Teacher; Biology Teacher in secondary schools; Animal Science Lecturer in further education; and Science Teacher on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.

Paula is a flexible and creative teacher with a natural interdisciplinary approach and a commitment to connecting learning to real world experiences. She has worked with a broad range of curricula and assessment programmes including the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum; GCSE, A-Levels and BTEC; International Baccalaureate and the US Common Core. She also has teacher training in Concept-based Teaching, Differentiated Instruction, Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning, Special Educational Needs, Teaching for Understanding and Visible Thinking.

Paula has a BSc in Biology (Botany and Ecology), and an MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Bristol and Steiner Upper School Teacher Training at the London Waldorf Seminar in London. Paula is from Colombia and is bilingual in Spanish and English and also in Colombian and British Sign Language.

Paula has a wealth of knowledge, understanding and experience in supporting students effectively in all aspects of their learning (academic and pastoral). She is creative, inclusive and enquiring teacher who is committed to supporting all learners in a diverse, mixed-ability class. She has experience in helping students with English as an Additional Language, deafness and hearing impairment, ASD and dyslexia, and a good understanding of Mental Health issues in young people.
